About Future Macro
What we cover
Future Macro explains oil, inflation, interest rates and the Fed in plain English. Each video starts from a number in the news and follows it through to what it costs you, at the pump, in your paycheck or on a mortgage.
Each long video gets a source page on this site with its chapters, the numbers it uses and links to where they came from.
How we handle numbers
- Primary sources firstData comes from the agencies that publish it, including BLS, EIA, AAA, the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Treasury, Freddie Mac and CBO.
- Wire reports are namedMarket moves come from named wire and data services such as Reuters and Dow Jones Market Data, with a link.
- Every figure is datedA price or rate is shown with the day or month it describes, so you can tell how old it is.
- Our math is labelledWhen we work something out ourselves, like the cost of a fill-up, we say so and show the inputs.
If you spot a number that looks wrong, the source link next to it is the place to check first.
