Corrections policy
What we fix
We fix any number, date, chart or source link that is wrong. That includes typos in figures, a wrong date on a number, a chart that doesn't match its data, and a link that points to the wrong release.
How we fix it
- We change the pageThe wrong figure is replaced with the right one and its source.
- We say what changedA dated note at the bottom of the page gives the old figure, the new one and why it changed.
- No quiet edits to numbersFixing a spelling mistake doesn't get a note. Changing a number always does.
When an agency revises its own data later, we don't treat that as our mistake. If we update a page to the newer figure, we note the revision and the date.
Report a mistake
Use our contact form and pick "Correction". Tell us the page, the number you think is wrong and, if you have one, a link to the source that shows the right figure.
We read every report. If we agree it's wrong, we fix it and add the note.
