The short version
This site has no accounts and no ads. It sets no cookies. The only form on the site is the contact form, and it collects only what you type into it.
Visit counts
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read. Cloudflare says this tool doesn't use cookies or track you across other sites. Cloudflare also handles the requests your browser makes to load the pages.
The opening animation
The home page plays a short animation once per visit. To skip it on your next page view, your browser keeps a small note in session storage. It never leaves your device and is cleared when you close the tab.
The gas-cost calculator
The gas-cost calculator does its math in your browser. The miles, MPG and price you type aren't sent to us or anyone else, and nothing is saved after you leave the page.
The contact form
The contact form asks for your email, a topic and your message. Your name is optional. We use these only to read your message and reply to you. Messages are stored privately in our Cloudflare account, are deleted automatically after 180 days, and only we can read them. We don't add you to any list or share them.
To stop spam, the form briefly counts how many messages come from your internet connection. We keep a scrambled version of your IP address for up to two hours, then it's deleted.
Want a message deleted? Ask through the same form.
The newsletter
The Three Numbers newsletter runs on Beehiiv. If you sign up, you give your email address to Beehiiv on their site, and their privacy policy covers it. You can unsubscribe from any issue.
Links to other sites
Videos play on YouTube, and source links go to the agencies and services that publish the data. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
